It’s Cannes Film Festival time again

Cannes is back. The world’s most famous film festival got underway yesterday. Here’s the official website, so you can stay up-to-date on everything. You can see what movies are being shown, find out who is entered in the competitions, and watch trailers from all the movies. And here’s an interview with Angelina Jolie and Jack Black talking about their clothes.

The Cannes festival, as you know, is one of the film industry's biggest annual events. It draws celebrities from all over the world. It has a very international feel; the movies come from dozens of different countries, and so do the movie stars. Lots of glamour.

This year, the head judge is Robert DeNiro. Uma Thurman and Jude Law are also on the jury. The big prize is the Palme d’Or, which goes to the festival's best movie (according to the jury). There are 20 contenders, and DeNiro says the Palme is totally up for grabs. Very suspenseful.

Festival or no festival, Cannes is a great place to be. I spent an afternoon there once when I was traveling in the French Riviera. It’s close to Nice, only about half an hour away by train or bus. It’s a very picturesque Mediterranean resort town; a lot of boats, beaches, seaside cafés, stuff like that. Many EF College Break trips go through the French Riviera. Most of them have a free afternoon there, so you should definitely consider checking out Cannes.
