Okay I’ve held out long enough. The Royal Wedding is tomorrow, I'm going to write about it.
Of course a lot has been written and said over the months about the big day. I’m not that into it, so I didn’t read or listen to most of it. But here’s something that caught my attention. It’s a gallery of bizarre and odd royal wedding-related souvenirs you can buy. Some of these are hilarious. I kind of want a Royal Wedding Sick Bag. I could also use a Royal Wedding Pez Dispenser, and I think it might be fun to have a life-size cardboard cutout of Kate Middleton in my room.
Wedding fever has gripped most of England and much of the world. As I said, I don’t really care about it. On the other hand, I do like the idea of these very old traditions being carried on through the modern day. The idea of English royalty getting married in Westminster Abbey, just as they’ve been doing for centuries and centuries, is kind of cool. So I understand why people get excited for it.
Speaking of Westminster Abbey, here’s something else I found. It’s a virtual tour. In preparation for the big day, you can look around the Abbey and click on different parts of it, and disembodied voices tell you what you’re looking at. Good stuff.
And here’s a video I saw a few weeks ago about the folks at Legoland in Windsor (about a half hour from London) who recreated an elaborate royal wedding scene out of Legos. The crowd of Lego well-wishers includes many famous Lego celebrities, including Lego Paul McCartney and Lego Victoria Beckham.
Anyway, congratulations to the happy couple.
